DENVER— The Denver Nuggets will take part in a regular season game against the Indiana Pacers at London’s 02 Arena as part of the NBA’s “Global games,” the team announced Thursday.
The game will take place Jan. 12 of next year and will mark both teams’ first time playing in London. Tickets are set to go on sale at the beginning of the 2016-17 NBA season.
“It will be a true honor and a great experience to represent both the Nuggets and the NBA in London as part of the NBA global games in 2017,” Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari said in a statement. “Our entire team and organization are looking forward to this opportunity to showcase our league overseas.”
The international series is a critical part of the NBA’s ongoing international outreach program. A quarter of current NBA players were born outside the United States. Commissioner Adam Silver discussed the program’s importance to the league and it’s development.
“We are thrilled to return for our seventh regular-season game in London,” Silver said. “We are seeing firsthand the global growth of our game, which has never been more popular in the U.K.”
The rest of the Nuggets’ 2016-17 schedule should be announced in August, and training camp is set to kick-off in mid-September at the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Colorado Springs facility.
