Etchells Biscayne Bay Series which comprised of four-event got underway from 8-9 December with 48 teams participating on Bay of Biscayne in Miami, FL. Steve Benjamin took the lead in the Regatta of Louis Piana Cup with a score of 4-1-1 on the first day and took the victory with a score of 11-5 on the second two. Benjamin who was sailing with Ian Liberty, Michael Menninger, and Jonny Goldsberry, managed to finish the race with a margin of seven-point over Jim Cunningham who secured the second spot with Scott Kaufman with a 1 more less point gaining the third spot.
The race committee has declared the schedule and the outcomes of the event. In their declaration, they also told about the winding course and said that in the first race the start was clear in the first attempt. And the side of port favored on the course. And in the same format, the outcomes of the other four races were also declared by the committee. It was a great weekend of racing in the Bay of Biscayne, which was very exciting to watch and was supported by a lot of spectators and managed by a great team of the race committee.
As already mentioned the series of Etchells Biscayne Bay, 2018-19 will be a four-event series. The first event is held on 8-9 December 2018 which is known as Louis Piana Cup Regatta. The second event is the Sidney Doren Memorial Regatta which will take place on 5 & 6 January 2019. The third event is the Florida State Championship which is scheduled to take place on 9 & 10 February 2019. And the fourth & the last event are the Mid-winter’s east Regatta which will take place on March 1 & 3, 2019.
For a team to get qualified for the overall prizes of Etchells Biscayne Bay Series, 2018-19, their boats must get their score in the Regatta of Mid-Winter and any of the two events out of the three individual regattas (Sidney Doren Memorial, Florida State Championship, or Piana Cup). They will get scores as per the Lowest Point System e.g. 1st place = 1 point. Ultimately, the boat securing the lowest scores among others will be declared the winner of the series.
